[Positive Monday] Expect Back What You Give

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! It's the week after my birthday and I'm so sad to see it go. I wish I could celebrate my birthday year round lol, although then it wouldn't be as significant I suppose. Anywho I really enjoyed my birthday as I hadn't done anything special on the actual day in years. It felt good to know that someone cared enough to spend the day with me!

On another note, my birthday also made me realize some not so great things. I had two people VERY close to me not wish me a happy birthday at all. When I confronted one about it, the response I received was so selfish I was shocked that this person would even say this. They basically didn't wish me a happy birthday because they didn't see me that day. Mind you they text or call me for any and everything under the sun when needed. It's crazy how people can put themselves first through everything, not caring about how they make you feel at the end of the day. I was kind of upset about it at first, then I realized how great of a day I had overall so I chose not to let it get to me.

[Positive Monday] Where My Girls At?

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! I never thought I would say this but I have been looking forward to this week and I am actually glad that today is Monday! First of all let me start by reiterating that my 23rd birthday is this Wednesday lol. I have so much to look forward to and every reason to be positive! On top of my birthday being in two days, my best friend and I have decided to take a trip to Charlotte this coming Saturday so we can celebrate my birthday with a little fun. Not to mention that I have "invested" in two pair of shoes in the past week, one of which should be here any day, so new shoes always equal a good mood :)

Normally I spend my birthdays in Richmond for the weekend with all my best friends, not that I don't love that but I'm excited to be doing something different this year. Also I'm going to be treating myself to a full body massage on Wednesday morning just for my big day. My best friend and I also went and got manis and pedis this weekend. We did a little shopping on Saturday in Winston, and went out locally Saturday night. I ended up having a really good time; and after getting my hair straightened for the first time since October, I'm surprised it didn't poof up!

Yesterday for Super Bowl Sunday, my best friend and I went to church then to Olive Garden for lunch. She of course dragged me to the mall (she's the shopaholic not me! lol) and when we got back home she had a brilliant idea of us throwing a Super Bowl party at 5:30 pm lol! Considering that the Super Bowl started at 6:30 this wasn't much of a heads up for us but we got it done! We ended up making nacho dip as well as pigs in a blanket. Of course you can't forget the Coronas with the snacks! We had originally planned to make brownies but after stuffing our faces we couldn't eat any more lol. Mind you this was only a two person party lol, but we had fun nonetheless.

Of course there's a message with every #PositiveMonday post and this one is no different. This weekend made me realize how important it is to have a good friend in your life. My best friend Tia and I have been friends since I can remember, and yes we have a lot in common but we are two distinctly different people. That's what makes the dynamics of our friendship so unbreakable. We rarely ever look at situations the same, but we give each other our opinions, respect them and keep it moving. Nothing we tell each other is ever meant to harm the other, we genuinely look out for the other and vice versa. It's so hard to come by true friends, so when you know you have one you should definitely appreciate them always.

I've been through many friends throughout the years, but this one, as well as the other 3 I have, has stuck with me through thick and thin and I wouldn't trade their crazy selves for the world! Do you have certain friends that have been in the picture through it all, and they're still there?? Hit us up and let us know and check out a few pics from my weekend below!

[Positive Monday] Education is Everything

I mentioned in #PositiveMonday post from earlier today that I had went to talk to my advisor about my plans to continue school for my bachelor's degree, and I wanted to elaborate on my journey through school thus far. I know I said I really didn't have anything motivational to say, but I thought about all the struggling college students like myself and thought I would speak on the subject a tad.

[Positive Monday] Kick Off Your Shoes...

Whazzup, whazzup, whazzupppp!! *Martin voice* lol.. Man it feels like it's been forever and a day since I've written a blog, and from what I'm used to it has! My laptop died on me the week before last and I've been trying to get it fixed, only to find out that I need a whole new motherboard. Now I think I'm going to replace the motherboard and keep it another year or two before I actually get a new one. That laptop has EVERYTHING dealing with the Boss Chic Files on it, so I may as well keep it around for awhile :)

I know it's Positive Monday, but I have not done anything in the past week that may give you any motivation. LOL don't judge me but I seriously have been relaxing with my feet up for like the past week. I loved every minute of it! Not only did I release my body from any work, but I released my mind as well. I have had the most stress free past few days, so I'm feeling very rejuvenated on this beautiful Monday. On top of that today is supposed to be 60 degrees, then for the next three days it's going to be in the high 60's, almost 70! Now ya'll know I love my warm weather, so I'm stoked about that!

I also received an unexpected financial blessing over the weekend and of course you can't go wrong with that. I also went to meet with my advisor last week, and I'm happy to say I'll be starting my studies for my bachelor's degree at ODU in the summer... and I have decided to go with a professional writing major, hopefully one day expanding the blog and my writing skills :)

I would love for you all to leave comments with positive things that have happened to you in the past week or in life period that you want to share. It always makes me feel good to know that the people around me have good things going for themselves and lots to look forward to!

SN: My birthday is next Wednesday, February 8th... I shall be 23. You know just in case ya'll wanna surprise me with gifts, flowers and candy LOL

*throws shades on*

[Positive Mondays] Follow Your Dreams

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! As we all know today is Martin Luther King Jr Day so we have to first start our positive monday by giving thanks to the man who changed EVERYTHING for us. Without him and his dream, without his hard work and determination, our world wouldn't be the way it is at all right now. Not to say we wouldn't have eventually gotten to this point, but he made everything possible by not giving up. His dream means everything to me, and I hope we as a society live up to the dream and work to make it even better in the future.

[Positive Monday] No BS in 2012

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! I hope everyone had a great weekend, as I did for the most part! Of course we have to start our week on a positive note, and since it's still the beginning of the year what better what to start the week than to make a goal to cut out all bullshit from your life?

If you know me, for the most part you should know that I'm a very kindhearted person, and I can tend to be a pushover at times. I get a satisfaction out of making others happy, but sometimes I forget to put myself first. My initial goal of 2012 was to put all bs behind me, focus on what makes me and only me happy, and not worry about what anyone else has to say. I must say so far I'm doing very good! It starts to take a toll on you when you worry about what others will say about your actions, and at the end of the day only you have to live with them.

[Positive Monday] Not So Good, But Still So Good

Good morning bosses and boss chics! I hope everyone had a good weekend and is ready to start their Monday in a positive way! Yesterday I went to church and one of the other ministers in our church gave the message instead of our actual preacher. She spoke about how things we go through in life really don't seem good at all and are actually painful to us, but in the end they help us to turn our lives around in a good way.

Sometimes it feels like we are going through the worst of the worst in life, but in reality those hardships help to make us who we are. When you can get through difficult struggles in life and still come out on top, it says a lot about your character and personal strength. It also shows that you really have God by your side.

I tweeted the other day that I love hearing celebrities' personal come up stories, especially the ones who experienced more struggle because they make me want to push harder. Those are the ones that I give the most respect because they never gave themselves any excuses as to why they could not make it. We all have to remember that no success comes without struggle, and no good without bad. If we didn't experience any bad, how would we learn to appreciate the good in life?

When I think about the celebrities who went through the most to get where they are, I mainly think about Mary J Blige and Jay Z. They both had a very disturbing past but just in different lights. Mary J Blige has always been one of my favorite artists because she has never been afraid to share her story, the REAL story. I respect her music so much because it can get you through just about any hard time in life. Below I've posted a video of her performing one of my favorite songs by her... this one gets me through everything and is one of my favorite motivatial songs. Check it out below! Have a #PositiveMonday!!

[Positive Monday] What Matters Most...

Zoe Saldana & her sister serving the homeless at a shelter in LA for Thanksgiving
Although I wish I could go back to Wednesday and start my Thanksgiving break over again, we have to be thankful for the fact that we've been allowed to see another week. On that note I have to wish everyone a Positive Monday! Whew I really do not know where to start for this post lol, my break was much needed and EPIC.

I went to my aunt's house in Fairfax, VA to spend Thanksgiving with my mom's family which is always a good time no matter what. I love getting to spend time with my younger cousins because we all live in different areas and don't get to see each other often. It's so exciting getting to stay up with them in the middle of the night exchanging stories about our hometowns and life issues.

When I got back on Friday, I ended up going to a local spot in my small hometown by myself. I had had a really long day and just wanted to get out and clear my head a little so I got dressed up and went out alone. Even though I went by myself, I never actually felt like it was just me. I saw different people that I hadn't seen in awhile, and I can be very sociable in a party scene so I didn't feel awkard at all.

On Saturday my girls came home from Richmond and we all went out that night to the same local spot I had went to the night before. Being that we're from a small town, there's always drama whenever an event goes on. I'm just thankful to be able to say that it's never myself or my friends who are caught up in anything. It's funny because my friends and I are very different as individuals, but we all compliment each other so well.

Friends, family, and loved ones should always come first during the holidays. I'm so grateful to have spent mine with those who matter the most. Now of course during the holidays, there's usually drama that comes with it, but still the good times ended up being greater than the bad for me. I went through something pretty difficult for myself on Thanksgiving Day that made me look at life a little differently, but I'm thankful that I've formed a stronger backbone and have learned to speak up for myself when I don't believe something is right.

I  had said that I was going to do a post on what I'm thankful for on Thanksgiving, but with traveling and all the festivities I didn't get time to do the post. Therefore, I'll list those now to leave this on a positive note... I'm first of all thankful for life and for having a loving God who sees fit for me to continue to live. I'm very thankful for my son and how being his mother has allowed me to grow as a person. I'm thankful for my friends and family who I can depend on to support me and be real with me, yet still respect me as well. I'm thankful for my independent attitude and my nature to do things myself rather than waiting around for someone else to do them for me. I'm thankful for my means of providing for Trey and the fact that he has everything he needs. And to sum this all up, I'm thankful for where I've come from to get where I am, and the future that God has planned for me that's bigger than what I can see with my own eyes :)

I hope everyone has a #PositiveMonday!!

[Positive Monday] Give Thanks

Kanye rocking his shades at a previous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade *throws shades on*
Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! I hope everyone had a good weekend and is getting prepared for the upcoming holiday! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year... of course I love to eat, but I also enjoy the family time that comes with this holiday. Last year my friend Ashley blogged on here about what she was thankful for to get everyone in the holiday spirit. My friend Tia and I commented following up with what we're thankful for as well. If you'd like, you can click here to go back and read that blog.

[Positive Mondays] Put ME First

*throws shades on* What's up Bosses and Boss Chics! It's Monday again *yawns* but at least we all know we'll be bringing in the week on a positive note right? Right :) The fact that there was light outside on my way to work this morning put me in the best mood! That may sound simple, but you have no idea how hard it is to get out of the bed and get ready for work when it's still dark outside. Then to look outside and see all your neighbors' lights are still out? Pshhht it's for the birds lol, but lo and behold there was light this morning! I couldn't help but to appreciate the time change.

To add to my great morning, I had a great weekend as well. I actually got to RELAX. Let me reiterate that. I never get to sleep in late or just do nothing. My son is a fireball of energy so he always keeps me on my toes, but this weekend I got a little break. I got a little cleaning done, watched numerous movies, and even slept until 3 pm yesterday LOL. I hadn't slept that late probably since high school, but it was much needed and well deserved.

Sleeping in made me realize how much I'm always on the go. Even when I'm at home I'm always doing something like catering to Trey, doing homework, housework, or something! My mind is never really clear for the most part, and I realized that I need to take more time out for myself. Sometimes we can get so wrapped up in life's duties that we don't take time for ourselves and we tend to burn out. I think that was my problem last week when I couldn't really think of anything I wanted to write about. It really doesn't take much to give yourself some "me time". Even if it's just going to a movie, a solo lunch, the nail salon, or sleeping in all day... we ALL should take that time out for ourselves on a regular basis.

I'm the type of person who is never satisfied with my work. I could be doing a million things and I'll still be wondering if there is something else I can pick up as a hobby or job in the mix of it all. This can be a pretty rewarding attitude to have, but at the same time it's also tiring. Whenever I do take breaks or take days where I don't do anything, I start to feel like I'm slacking. But after this weekend, my opinion of that changed. How can you really enjoy what you work for if you don't take the TIME to do so?? Don't over work yourself when you know that you already give your all, it will be hard to appreciate everything in the long run if you tire yourself out in the process!

XOXO,
LaBellaBoss ♥

SN: Don't you just love the pics of Lady Gaga with her shades on? I don't think anyone's collection is better than hers lol. Anywho make sure you throw your shades on and keep blocking out negativity for #PositiveMondays!

Family Over Everything, That's My Attitude

Good morning bosses and boss chics! I apologize for not getting to the Positve Monday post yesterday but I had a very hectic weekend which I'm about to fill you in on now. As some know, I was supposed to be leaving this past Friday to go to Norfolk for Norfolk State's homecoming. I had taken off work and was going to hit the road around 10 am. Originally my best friend Tia and I were supposed to go together but she wasn't able to get off work for the days she needed.I had changed my plans to stay at my grandma's in Chesapeake for the weekend and just drive to wherever I'm going from her house, but my plans were immediately altered after my mom called me Thursday night.

[Positive Mondays] Please Don't Shoot Me Down

Throw your shades on for #PositiveMonday!! I hope everyone had a good day today to start off a good week, sorry I'm a little late on the post for today. I usually do these in the mornings between calls while I'm at work, but lately I haven't had much spare time. Anywho, I know I said I was going to do a video for every Positive Monday post to go along with the theme, however this post was something that I really wanted to put out there and I couldn't think of a song to go with it lol.

I was watching Lala's show earlier tonight where she had a conversation with her cousin Dice about her sexuality. Lala was basically telling Dice that she shouldn't worry about what other people would say about her having a girlfriend, she just needs to forget the rest and make herself happy. This inspired my post today because so many people I know, including myself, hinder ourselves from doing what we really want in life because we're afraid of what people will think.

[Positive Mondays] Sky Is The Limit

Happy Monday bosses and boss chics! I hope everyone had a good weekend and is in a positive mood this beautiful Monday morning :) It was such a struggle for me to get up this morning! My best friend Tia and I went to Richmond to help out our other best friend Ashley with a fashion show she worked in this weekend. She's interning for a magazine called Quail Belle, and they had a fantasy fashion show this weekend at her school VCU. Our other best friend Portia also came out to help as a dresser/stylist for the show.

We left Saturday morning around 9:30 am and got back last night around 10 pm. That 3 hour drive is NO JOKE in two days, but it was well worth it to be able to support such a deserving friend. I even got a dose of what it's like to be a part of the fashion industry behind the scenes; it was so mind boggling how talented people are in the fashion world! There's no way I could ever work under that pressure and at such a fast pace! It was fun seeing how everything goes down to put shows together and make them work.

[Positive Monday] Cherish What You Have While You Have It

*throws shades on*

Happy Monday or should I say #PositiveMonday to be exact! My weekend was great, but it went by way too fast! I suggest we all start and sign a petition stating that the work week begins on Tuesday, leaving Friday-Monday for the weekends. All in favor say "I" lmao!

On a more serious note, I decided to start doing Positive Mondays a little different and try to leave you guys with a positive song for the week after each post. The song is supposed to tie in with the total message of the post as a whole, and hopefully will leave a little inspiration for each week.

[Positive Monday] Keep Your Head Up

Since I already have a motivational post up for the day, I won't talk you to death in this post for #PositiveMonday. However I did want to leave you guys with a positive song for the day to maybe help you get through the week. This is one song that I listen to all the time whenever I feel like I need an emotional boost. The positivity in this song is so great and so inspiring, and the way Pac delivers the lyrics cannot be duplicated by any other. He was definitely the voice of hip hop back in the 90's, and his messages spoke volumes. Catch the motivational video for the week above, maybe you can add this to your playlist whenever you're having a rough day.... Keep ya head up :)

"Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure... and if you fall, stand tall and come back for more"

[Positive Monday] The ReMixed Life Campaign

I have had the wonderful chance of being able to help someone who inspires me to be all that I can, and it would only be right to share that experience with you! Neycha, who is an artist with a beautiful voice, is someone that I'm thankful to have had the chance to know personally. She's a very inspiring person and has a very big heart. She is the type of person who is always looking for what she can do to help someone else, and I don't think I've ever heard her say or do anything negative towards anyone else.

When she asked me to help promote this project for her, I quickly agreed to assist. She has started a campaign called The ReMixed Life to further inspire people in life. She works with adults in the field of personal growth, helping them to get their lives back on track after life altering circumstances. She says "she wants to get away from behind the desk and reach out to people from the stage again" as she once has before.

She plans to put her story into the form of an album as well as a short film. Neycha is asking that everyone donate $21 to help her raise $10,000 in 21 days (which isn't asking for much at all!) The funds are going to be used towards the makings of the album as well as the short film, as she will need studio time, producers, etc. I'm hoping that everyone will become a part of this movement, and even if you can't donate you can help get the word out about the project through social networking.

Make sure you watch the video above, that alone will show just how creative miss Neycha is! That VOICE is amazing and inspiring in itself! I'm anxious to see the finished results of The ReMixed Life campaign, I already know she will deliver! You can view the full page for her campaign here... Are you inspired yet?? #PositiveMondays :)

[Positive Monday] Memories Last A Lifetime

My mommy and I <3

It's Monday again *weeps* lol I'm kidding! I actually don't even mind being up and at work today even though it was still dark outside when I got here O_0... For the first time in who knows how long, Trey was actually awake when I dropped him off at school this morning. He goes on to ask me "Mama why is it dark outside?" Lol! I tried to explain to him that when the seasons change it stays dark longer, but he didn't understand. Kids are too funny!

Speaking of my little man, unfortunately he's pretty much accident prone like his mama and is always getting hurt in some kind of way. (I'm hoping he'll grow out of this!!) I got a call from his teacher on Friday while I was at work saying that Trey had hurt his arm at school. He was apparently playing on the carpet sitting down, and one of his friends were running around and ran into his arm which caused his wrist and hand to bend backwards. I initially thought it was broken because his teacher said he wouldn't move it. After he kept complaining to her about it, I got off work and took him to the doctor. Him being the dramatic child that he is, had me carrying him into the doctor's office, then into the hospital where they had to do his xray. Luckily nothing was broken or fractured, but they gave him a wrist brace to wear for a few days. I can't help but thank God that it wasn't more serious! (God knows I can't deal with being his nurse for too long, I'm telling ya'll he is EXTREME when he's hurt!! LOL)

[Positive Monday] Every Little Thing Counts

It was only right that I post a pic of Floyd Mayweather in his stunnas for #PositiveMonday right?? Right lol. I didn't get to watch the fight, but trust and believe my twitter timeline kept me up on every move made, ultimately ending in Mayweather knocking out Ortiz after 11 minutes. Supposedly Mayweather made 25 million bucks for the short time that he was in the boxing ring. We know who's having a positive Monday today!! Lol

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

Don't you just love this pic of Mary J?? Her shades are always on point! Anyway, it's #PositiveMonday again already, where did the weekend go?? I've been sort of MIA for the past few days but I'm back and in full force. However, I do have mad homework this week so don't get ill with me if I don't post every day lol.

I always try to start the week off on a positive note in hopes of making it last through the week. On Friday I received a letter from my school telling me that I was only one class away from graduating with my associates degree. I happen to be enrolled in that class now, so I'll have my associates in December. After that I can finally work towards my bachelor's degree studying something that I love.

Positive Monday- The Power In The Tongue

Throw your shades on for positive Monday because BOY do we have a lot to be thankful for today! First of all the trending topic on twitter this morning is #IHATEMondays... Seems like the rest of the world needs to get in on this #PositiveMondays vibe and get rid of that negative thinking! I live on the east coast, and I can't see how anyone on this side of the nation could not be positive today.

We had the biggest earthquake in Virginia since the late 1800's last week with minimal to no damage which is a major blessing. Mind you the earthquake measured at 5.8 and could be felt as far north as Toronto and Martha's Vineyard and as far south as Atlanta, GA. Then in the same week here comes Irene ready to take the east coast by storm literally. While she did cause damage to North Carolina and parts of Virginia, she was not as bad as expected. According to weather reports, she was supposed to go straight through the city of New York which caused a state of emergency there as well as in other states. BUT by the grace of God, she died down to a tropical storm before she could cause any major turmoil.

The way the news was reporting Hurricane Irene, there could have been many lives lost and homes destroyed. However most people in the target areas only experienced flooding and loss of power. If that's not a reason to be positive then I don't know what is. On top of that I finally made it to church yesterday after missing two Sundays (I'm human) and it was so uplifting! What stood out most to me in yesterday's message was that YOU have the power to speak things into existence in your life. The tongue is the most powerful part of your body. Whether you speak negatively or positively over your life could be the determining factor between something positive or negative actually happening!

Speak positively over your life, and positivity will come into existence!!
