We're Moving On Up!

I don't know what I was thinking but I forgot to do one last post through this blog to update the readers on the new blog! I had been tweeting and posting about the change on facebook, but I didn't think to actually write a blog about it since most people use these social networks. So my apologies to those who weren't aware!

Most people already know, but my blog has moved from here to a new location! I finally purchased my own domain so you can visit the blog directly at http://www.bosschicfiles.com/ now. I'm so excited about it and what's to come for the BCF! I hope you guys enjoy the new site and please share your thoughts with us so we can make it better in the future!

[Fashion Files] Sweats & Heels

Sweats and heels is probably the one look that most people automatically say is a fashion fail, and I used to think the same thing until I got older and developed this quirky style that I have. Now I'm down to try just about anything! We first saw this look years ago worn by 106th & Park's first co-host, Free. She used to have this look down to a science, but back then no one else was wearing it. (Mariah Carey doesn't count she wears heels with EVERYTHING lol).

Now it's a different story though. Not too long ago, 106th & Park's newest co-host Rocsi posted a picture to her instagram rocking heels and sweats, and she shouted out Free in her caption as being the first to ever do it. Since then I've seen the trend steadily growing and the question still remains is it fashionable to wear sweats with heels? I say yes! BUT it does depend on how you wear it and the type of sweats you're wearing. I think each girl in the pics above represented the look very well, and I found a pair of sweatpants similar to theirs that I think would look good with heels as well.

Below you can check out two pair of sweatpants that I found at TopShop.com. Each pair are priced at $50 and you can click the link below each to go straight to the website if you want to purchase them. Leave a comment and let me know what your thoughts are on this look! Would you wear it??

[Fashion Files] Mischa Barton Shoulder Bag

So who knew that actress Mischa Barton designed handbags through ASOS? Not me! I was browsing through their website and ran across some of her bags and found that they're pretty nice! They seem to be made of good quality and they are very fashionable.

One of my pet peeves when shopping for purses is finding a decent material and design. I don't really care if my handbags are name brand or not, but I can't stand a cheap looking purse! The bag shown above is the Belle Boxy Shoulder Bag and can be found here for $60.88. The one shown is in midnight blue, but they also have it in black as well as cream. I think this bag would tie in perfectly with the "sailor stripes" look! Since the bag is midnight blue you could pair it with a pair of white linen pants, a sailor stripe shirt, and a cute pair of sandals or wedges. You'd have a perfect spring look on your hands :)

I did a post last week with the perfect pair of shoes for this bag.. I've posted a pic of the shoes below, so make sure you check those out as well. Are you feeling this bag?? Hit me up with your thoughts!

Friends, Foes, and Frenemies

So who watched tonight's season premiere of Basketball Wives? All I can say is drama, drama, drama! First of all how old are these women? If they like it I love it because they sure are my entertainment! I'm pretty sure some of it is scripted but the main thing I want to talk about is the relationships/friendships between these women.

Coming into the episode Suzie was up to her usual antics of trying to be the middle man between everyone. I thought it was quite funny when Royce called her out about how fake she is... Suzie didn't know what to say! She irks my nerves more than anyone else on the show. Then when the new girls met Jennifer, she acted like they had something to prove to her. I guess they take that circle very seriously lol.

[New Music] Rihanna X Breezy = Birthday Cake Remix

HAPPY 24th BIRTHDAY ROBYN RIHANNA FENTY!! Ya'll know that's my main chick in my head lol. Obviously the beef between Chris Brown and Rihanna has ceased as he wished her a happy birthday around midnight last night. It has been rumored that Breezy would be on her remix to "Birthday Cake" from Talk  That Talk and I have the link for you below!

The song is a little fast paced, I'm assuming because it's leaked rather than the actual version. But you can check it out below and let me know what you think! SN: I wonder how Breezy's girlfriend Karrueche feels about all this... last night she retweeted someone and said "Didn't give a f*ck yesterday, don't give a f*ck today, and I probably won't give a f*ck tomorrow" #chile lol

Welp I know the drama behind this will be surfacing with the quickness! *grabs popcorn and sips tea* #staytuned lol

[My Natural Hair] The Fishtail Braid

Believe it or not I'm still going strong with #teamnatural even though it's been a serious struggle! I had started doing random posts about my hair to maybe help other women/girls going through the natural process as well but I haven't experimented with any new hairstyles lately. Just to give an update though, I had been wearing my hair in the bantu knots and taking them out like before. One time I had tried the bantu knots in twists rather than plaits, and the result was a head full of curls like I had gotten rods. I loved it!

Once my bantu twists fell completely, I figured out a way to pin up my hair in a cute, messy bun to avoid washing my hair for a few days. I then went to the beauty shop the weekend before my birthday (2 weeks ago) and decided to get my hair flat ironed again. I hadn't gotten it like that since October and I loved how it turned out. I've been trying to stay away from putting heat to my head to avoid breakage in the future, so it's very rare that I get it straightened.

Now I'm in the last few days of my straight hair and I'm trying to hold off as long as possible before doing my hair again. My hair is just so massive and thick, it's a process trying to do anything to it. What I want to try next is the fishtail braid as pictured above. That way I can do something different to my hair while it's straight and I can hold off on washing it again for a few more days.

Below I've posted a few pictures like I normally do of my different hairstyles I've been trying lately. If you're going natural but run out of ideas for your hair, always check the transitional videos on youtube... they are so helpful! Check out my different hair "experiments" below lol and let me know what you think!

What Goes Around Comes Back Around, Hey My Baby

T.O. treated Mo & Kita horribly... now he's lonely and broke smh

Karma is real! I could start the post with that and end it with the same three words and it still wouldn't be enough to get it through the heads of many people out here. Just about every day, I'm seeing statuses on facebook and twitter about how real karma is and how this or that person is just going to sit back and watch karma get back those who have done them wrong in the past. I too believe strongly in karma; I'm always posting about how what you put out is what you get back and how you should treat others how you want them to treat you.

[Throwback Thursday] The Best To Ever Do It

Before we go any further in this post, let me just get ya'll to focus on how breathtakingly beautiful THE Miss Whitney Houston looks in these two pictures above! I didn't know until after she passed that she modeled before she became the powerhouse singer that she was, but the reasons are so obvious! She was gorgeous!

You'd have to be living under a complete sheet of rock to have not heard the news of Whitney's passing, as she was found dead just the night before the Grammy's at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. I'm not here to go into the details of her death or any of that, I just wanted to show my respect for what I consider to be the biggest voice ever. I've never heard any other female who could hit the notes that she did and so gracefully. She never missed a beat or a note in her hayday, and no other voice could even begin to compare to hers.

Instead of doing a post of one of her old videos since I know they've been showing them on tv constantly this week, I decided to do a post on one of her old performances instead. That way we could actually see for ourselves just how great of a singer she was, not only on recorded songs but also live. Below you can find her Superbowl performance from 1991 as she sings the National Anthem like no one else could ever do. I don't think I've ever heard this sung in any better way!

Check the video out below, and make sure you keep Miss Houston's family, friends, and fans in your prayers! The industry and world have really lost a great thing in Whitney... she paved the way for so many other singers! RIP Whitney Houston... the best to ever do it!

[Fashion Files] Mesh Bodysuits

A few weeks ago I did a post on a leopard print bodysuit that I thought was pretty hot. Well I found other bodysuits that I thought you ladies might like as well. Bodysuits can be worn pretty much under anything, and these mesh bodysuits add a bit of sex appeal as well.

The neon yellow mesh bodysuit can be found here for $40.60. I think the leopard print bodysuit that I posted on was over $80 so this one is much more pocket friendly. The black stripe mesh bodysuit can be found here for $58.00. Both would look great paired with just about anything... These would be really cute under a colorful mini skirt for a night out.

Let me know if you're feeling them, and would you rock one??

[Fashion Files] Sailor Stripes for Spring

Spring will be here before you know it (can't wait!) so I figured it's time to start posting the trends for the next season. As much as I love boots and clothing for wintertime, I'm over this season already. One of the trends that will be big this spring is sailor stripes. We've seen this over and over, yet it still remains in style. I've never really experimented with any sailor stripe pieces, but if I happen to find anything that I like I definitely will give it a try this season.

Below I've listed different fashion items with the sailor stripe theme that I thought were pretty dope. There are shoes, clothes, and even handbags that I found online. You can check them out below and remember if you click the link under the pictures it will take you directly to the site to buy that particular item. Let me know what you think!

SN: If you try this trend, you only need one striped piece per outfit like the the fashionistas above... too many together will make it look tacky!

[Positive Monday] Expect Back What You Give

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! It's the week after my birthday and I'm so sad to see it go. I wish I could celebrate my birthday year round lol, although then it wouldn't be as significant I suppose. Anywho I really enjoyed my birthday as I hadn't done anything special on the actual day in years. It felt good to know that someone cared enough to spend the day with me!

On another note, my birthday also made me realize some not so great things. I had two people VERY close to me not wish me a happy birthday at all. When I confronted one about it, the response I received was so selfish I was shocked that this person would even say this. They basically didn't wish me a happy birthday because they didn't see me that day. Mind you they text or call me for any and everything under the sun when needed. It's crazy how people can put themselves first through everything, not caring about how they make you feel at the end of the day. I was kind of upset about it at first, then I realized how great of a day I had overall so I chose not to let it get to me.

2012 Grammy's Recap

I must say the Grammy's disappointed this year! Well actually they disappoint me usually every year now, but I still try to give them the benefit of the doubt and watch it anyway. Majority of my timeline was watching the Grammy's along with me, and let me just tell ya'll twitter makes the Grammy's ten times better than what they are! Talk about hilarious lol! Upon request by a few of my followers, I decided to give a quick run down of my thoughts on last night's awards show.

Well obviously the first two pics are the sole reason that I even wanted to watch in the first place! I LOVE ADELE AND RIHANNA!!! I was in stan overdrive last night lol. Both ladies looked gorgeous and glamorous on the red carpet, and both performed as well. Rihanna turned it up a notch with her performance showing how much she has grown throughout her career. The vocals have improved and she was giving us a little taste of her island girl dance moves... Now Rihanna ain't no Bey on the dance floor but she did her thing! I love seeing her perform because she has fun with it and doesn't take herself seriously... #girlcrush!! Rihanna also took home two Grammy's (Best Rap Collab & Best Rap Song) for her collaboration with Kanye' on "All of the Lights". Get it Rih! SN: The song she did with Coldplay was fire!

Adele on the other hand gave me straight chills automatically when she started singing. She performed "Rolling In The Deep" which was her first performance since she had surgery on her vocal chords. She did not disappoint at all! She makes singing so well look so easy. Last night Adele swept the board taking home six Grammys, all of which were well deserved! She is so humble, you can't help but love her!

On another note, Chris Brown also performed last night which makes this the first time he and Rihanna have attended the same award show since their incident in 2009. Chris did his usual thing of singing during the beginning, then went into his dance mode for the rest of the performance. I love to see him perform because he always gives his all. His set was dope and reminded me of the old game QBert! He performed my favorite song by him "Beautiful People", I was fist pumping away last night lol! Chris also took home the award for Best R&B Album and I was so happy! It feels good seeing him make a comeback after the world thought he never would. And I'm glad they weren't petty with it by focusing the camera between Rih and Chris all night.

Last but not least, I sat up waiting and waiting for the tribute to Whitney Houston and ended up mad! Don't get me wrong, Jenny Hud (I never call her by her real name anymore lol) did her thing with "I Will Always Love You" per usual but that's all we get for Whitney? Whitney paved the way for EVERY female singer that came after her so the tribute definitely should have been longer. I had heard that Chaka Khan was going to perform "I'm Every Woman"... That would've brought me to life!

Other than what I said above the awards were pretty bland. I won't go into details about the other performances, just wanted to list my favorites... but I really can't leave ya'll without mentioning Nicki. Let's just say homegirl lost a fan last night and by the looks of twitter there's plenty more where that came from. Idk who authorized that bs, why they did or when but they should be smacked! Nicki my dear, you have officially sold your soul to the industry obviously you'll do anything for the fame! It wasn't so much the performance that bothered me but that song was pure garbage #thatisall

I forgot to mention it but Bruno Mars did really well during his performance as well, but did ya'll see the look on his face when he lost to Adele?? #salty lol... Check out a few of the performances from last night below and feel free to comment with your thoughts!

[Fashion Files] Cleopatra Sweater Dress

Ciara was spotted out in West Hollywood last night for a Pre-Grammy celebration given by producer Tricky Stewart. She was rocking a Givenchy t-shirt dress which immediately put me in the mind of Rihanna and Kanye's Rottweiler shirt/sweater. According to Necole Bitchie, this dress is the same as the t-shirt Kanye wore for the Watch The Throne tour, except it's made differently.

I put together a similar look below using a Cleopatra sweater dress by Unique which I found at TopShop for $85. You can find lace up over the knee boots just about anywhere but I'm extremely picky with shoes and I couldn't find any online that I like. However I posted the Cleopatra dress below, and as I said you can pair that with any type of black boots of your choice and you'll be fly :)

Check out the dress below and give me your thoughts!

[Positive Monday] Where My Girls At?

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! I never thought I would say this but I have been looking forward to this week and I am actually glad that today is Monday! First of all let me start by reiterating that my 23rd birthday is this Wednesday lol. I have so much to look forward to and every reason to be positive! On top of my birthday being in two days, my best friend and I have decided to take a trip to Charlotte this coming Saturday so we can celebrate my birthday with a little fun. Not to mention that I have "invested" in two pair of shoes in the past week, one of which should be here any day, so new shoes always equal a good mood :)

Normally I spend my birthdays in Richmond for the weekend with all my best friends, not that I don't love that but I'm excited to be doing something different this year. Also I'm going to be treating myself to a full body massage on Wednesday morning just for my big day. My best friend and I also went and got manis and pedis this weekend. We did a little shopping on Saturday in Winston, and went out locally Saturday night. I ended up having a really good time; and after getting my hair straightened for the first time since October, I'm surprised it didn't poof up!

Yesterday for Super Bowl Sunday, my best friend and I went to church then to Olive Garden for lunch. She of course dragged me to the mall (she's the shopaholic not me! lol) and when we got back home she had a brilliant idea of us throwing a Super Bowl party at 5:30 pm lol! Considering that the Super Bowl started at 6:30 this wasn't much of a heads up for us but we got it done! We ended up making nacho dip as well as pigs in a blanket. Of course you can't forget the Coronas with the snacks! We had originally planned to make brownies but after stuffing our faces we couldn't eat any more lol. Mind you this was only a two person party lol, but we had fun nonetheless.

Of course there's a message with every #PositiveMonday post and this one is no different. This weekend made me realize how important it is to have a good friend in your life. My best friend Tia and I have been friends since I can remember, and yes we have a lot in common but we are two distinctly different people. That's what makes the dynamics of our friendship so unbreakable. We rarely ever look at situations the same, but we give each other our opinions, respect them and keep it moving. Nothing we tell each other is ever meant to harm the other, we genuinely look out for the other and vice versa. It's so hard to come by true friends, so when you know you have one you should definitely appreciate them always.

I've been through many friends throughout the years, but this one, as well as the other 3 I have, has stuck with me through thick and thin and I wouldn't trade their crazy selves for the world! Do you have certain friends that have been in the picture through it all, and they're still there?? Hit us up and let us know and check out a few pics from my weekend below!

[New Video] Bad Girls- M.I.A.

Is MIA trying to take Rihanna's spot as the worldwide bad girl? I don't know and I don't care because I love it! MIA is one bad bish and not just by her looks and her style, but her music is beyond dope and so is her attitude! She just don't give a!  I know ya'll saw her flip the bird to the camera last night during Madonna's half time performance? MIA was the highlight of the show for me, when she stuck up her middle finger at the end of her verse it gave me life! I think I can relate to those artists who just don't care and have that "This is me hate it or love it I'm still me" type attitude.

I won't really go into talk about the Super Bowl half time show since I didn't really care for it, let's just skip the small talk and get right to MIA's new video for her new single "Bad Girls". Most of you remember her from her hit "Paper Planes", which received even more accreditation after some of the hottest rappers jumped on the remix. Well "Bad Girls" seems to be another guaranteed hit for the Sri Lankan beauty.

In her new video you can see her decked out in chains while posted up on top of a Beamer that's riding on two wheels. She is definitely giving us that bad girl vibe and I love it! I originally spotted the video at Necole Bitchie, and just wanted to repost it because I thought it was so hot! MIA is definitely a boss chic, and whether you think she is or not I don't think she quite cares lol... She did that!

Check out the video below as well as a few tweets from different celebrities giving MIA props on the new hit. SN: MIA is 36 years old!! Who knew?!? #bawse

[Fashion Files] VDay Date Night

I saw this dress online and immediately thought it would be a great dress for an intimate Valentine's date! The colors are a perfect blend for cupid's holiday and the fit of the dress is fun yet flirty. I think the dress exudes class but at the same time gives just the right amount of sex appeal.

I would only wear this dress if me and my honey were doing something really nice for the night. Maybe for dinner, a play, or an R&B concert etc. The dress can be found here for $89, and I paired it with a pair of purple pumps by Halston which you can find at Baker's for $100. Check the pumps out below.

Are you feeling these together?

[Fashion Files] Spring Fever: Color Blocking

OMG I HAVE SPRING FEVER!!! I swear this weather is going straight to my head and making me delusional lol. I have to keep reminding myself that it is still winter and we have a few more weeks before spring finally arrives. However it's never too early to start shopping for the next season and you can expect for color blocking to be big again this year.

I have a love/hate relationship with fashionista Jessica Simpson. For one I love everything she makes, anything that girl touches is a certified trend! On the other hand, I hate how she keeps taking my money... She's the main source of my shoe addiction lol. On that note I wanted to try another color blocking look based on these new wedges she just released. The shoes are $110 so I paired them with a look that is inexpensive so you can balance out your budget on the whole outfit. All you need to add is a cute purse (preferably the same color as the fuschia in the shoe) then everything will be tied together as one :)

You can check out the color blocking look I created below and let me know what you think!

[Gift Your Girl] Juicy Couture VDay Charm Bracelets

These two Juicy Couture bracelets are a perfect gift for that special lady on Valentine's Day. They're not TOO expensive and they say I love you in just the right way. And what girl do you know that doesn't like Juicy Couture's charm bracelets and necklaces? Don't worry I'll wait!

The bracelet on the left is called the Love Charm Bracelet and it runs at $88.00. You might think that's a steep price, but you have to remember that you can add charms to this bracelet as you please. So if you get this as a gift for someone, you can just add a charm each holiday or each year for Valentine's Day or your anniversary etc. She will definitely feel like you put thought into the gift. On the other hand, the bracelet on the right is called the Heart Starter Bracelet and costs $58.00. This one is obviously cheaper since charms cannot be added, but it still makes a great Valentine's Day gift.

You can click on the names of the bracelets within the post and it will direct you directly to the site where you can order these online if you're interested! Are you guys ready for Valentine's Day??

[The Game Recap] Game Opening, Game Closing

Yay to The Game bringing me some laughs last night! Since my computer was messed up, I didn’t get to do my post on last week’s episode of The Game but I’m backkk J Last week’s episode was quite boring to me, but this week brought me back to life.

In last night’s episode, Jason and Chardonnay are hitting it off and he takes her to the movies. He asks Chardonnay if she wants popcorn and she tells him that she actually brought her own snacks then starts pulling out Ziploc bags full of candy LOL! I thought Jason was going to call her ghetto and be turned off, but the fool then brought out his own bag too lol. On top of that they start yelling out at the movie together, running everybody else out of the theatre.

This first scene shows that Jason is starting to actually like Chardonnay beyond their unplanned marriage. But when Jason asks Chardonnay if she would like to actually continue dating him, she tells him that she feels like they’re in two different places in life and rejects him. Jason who isn’t used to rejection at all doesn’t know how to handle this, so he calls on his boys for help. Of course in the last episode, Malik and Derwin still weren’t on speaking terms so they initially thought he was trying to get them back talking. However, when he revealed that he was married to a black woman (one who acts like Tasha Mack at that lol), they told him that he has to fight for his woman.

"Her Life Was Stole, Now We'll Never Know..."

Anytime I think of someone young dying, I immediately think of Kelly Rowland's song "Stole" from 2002. Ashley Duncan was only 17 when she decided to end her own life. But this isn't just an ordinary suicide, she had been thinking about taking her life away for some time. Ashley Duncan was a well known student at Bellaire High School in Houston, TX. She had been posting to twitter and tumblr about how she wanted to end her life before she actually did.

According to a local news station from the area, Ashley had posted the following to her tumblr page:
"Life ain't worth the pain. if you know or have known what it feels like to want to die every minute second hour day week month year then you feel me…. I might not struggle financially but I struggle emotionally and mentally and I think that’s the worst struggle," Duncan wrote on Tumblr Sunday. "So in asking why can’t it be my choice to die now? … I’m miserable. One day I won’t be here anymore and that’ll be the happiest day of my life… I’m tired and I’m done with this life."

She had also posted to twitter that same day that she felt like God was punishing her for keeping her alive. All of this took place this past Sunday, then on Monday she ended her life after finding a gun. She even tweeted that she had found the gun. Later she had posted on Tumblr that she was ready to end her life and left her followers with one word... "Peace".

What makes this so different from other situations like this is that she played everything out over various social networks and none of her followers took her seriously. Different students at her school were saying they thought she was joking because she was known for joking and playing around. She had previously left Bellaire High School in October 2011 and was attending Pershing High School in hopes of graduating early, so no one really knows what was bothering her to push her so far.

The sad thing about this situation is the fact that she put it out there that she was going to do this and no one heard her cry for help. To know that she posted all the things on Tumblr and twitter, and NO ONE took her seriously says so much. I don't know if these issues that were bothering her were the cause for her switching schools or what, who knows what was going on in her life... but the fact that she posted about all of this on social networks should have opened some eyes. I don't think my friends would have took me as a joke if I had said all of these things, or at least I know someone would have checked to make sure I was good rather than laughing about it with me.

It's a really sad situation that her life ended so soon and so publicly, and I wonder how the people that know her and read her posts feel. That just goes to show you that you never know what anyone is going through, but if someone you know threatens to take their own life then you should definitely take them seriously because you never know their pain. It's bad enough that this teenager struggled with the thoughts of suicide, but for her to publicize her thoughts and no one hear her cry is just crazy to me. Everyone should say a prayer for her soul, her family and her friends and let's hope that this sends a message to the world that life is to be taken seriously.

Below are a screenshot of her tweets before she took her life and I've also posted the video of Kelly's single "Stole". Feel free to leave your thoughts or any comments you have about this situation below.

♥ Rest In Peace Ashley Duncan ♥

[Look For Less] Rihanna's Givenchy Rottweiler Sweater

A few months ago, I saw on several blogs where Rihanna and Kanye had been rocking these Rottweiler t-shirts made by Givenchy, and I immediately thought they were dope. Not only are the tops hot, but the way they both wore them made them look even better. Rihanna, who opted for the Givenchy sweater rather than t-shirt, is well known for her good girl gone bad look... and I personally love the bad girl more.

When I'm not in my military inspired gear or dressed preppy, you can bet that I'm going to be dressed in all black or something similar. I love the whole rockstar style that she does, and I've incorporated it heavily in my wardrobe. Well I wanted to do a look similiar to what Rihanna is giving us in the picture above, and I found the perfect sweater online at TopShop.

Below I've posted pics of different pieces that I threw together to give a Rihanna-esque vibe to the sweater I found. You can check them out below and let us know if you're feeling the look!

[Positive Monday] Education is Everything

I mentioned in #PositiveMonday post from earlier today that I had went to talk to my advisor about my plans to continue school for my bachelor's degree, and I wanted to elaborate on my journey through school thus far. I know I said I really didn't have anything motivational to say, but I thought about all the struggling college students like myself and thought I would speak on the subject a tad.

[Fashion Files] Rascal Mesh Bodysuit

I absolutely love any and everything that is leopard print, zebra print, etc... anything animalistic is a win!! I also feel the same about tribal prints. Anywho, I have found a leopard print piece that is an absolute must have for your wardrobe. You don't have to get this specific one since it's a little expensive, but I guarantee you can't go wrong by investing in one.

Below I've posted a leopard print bodysuit which I found at NastyGal.com for $88. Yes it's a little steep but like I said you can't go wrong with it. For one, you can really wear this with ANYTHING. I mean literally, under a skirt, under pants, jeans, shorts... whatever you'd like. Not only that but you can also wear anything over it... a blazer, vest, cardigan, off the shoulder shirt, see through shirt, etc. So this piece is extremely versatile and can be worn in many different ways.

You can buy it here and they still have sizes from 6-12 if you're interested. You can check it out for yourself below, and also I posted a pic of how NastyGal.com pieced together an outfit with this bodysuit. Normally, I do my own look but I'm actually feeling their's :) Let us know if you're digging it or not!

SN: If you know me, then you know I love all black everything... this would also be hot with black harem pants, black peep toe booties, and a black blazer or cardigan #justsaying

[Guy Code] Designer Pins

If you're the type of guy who likes to stay on top of his game when it comes to style then you may already be up on these. However, most guys I know have their own style but they really could care less about the details that come with fashion. Well Melody Ehsani, who custom designs jewelry for celebrities, has a few pins that I thought were dope for men.

I really hate the word swag but I can't think of anything else to give definition to these pins. I think these are a good way for men to add versatility to their looks, and not take away from their masculinity. These pins run anywhere from $30- $60, and I think they're worth it. You can check them out below with the prices listed as well. And if you click the links under the pictures they will take you directly to the website in case you're interested in buying a few :)

[Positive Monday] Kick Off Your Shoes...

Whazzup, whazzup, whazzupppp!! *Martin voice* lol.. Man it feels like it's been forever and a day since I've written a blog, and from what I'm used to it has! My laptop died on me the week before last and I've been trying to get it fixed, only to find out that I need a whole new motherboard. Now I think I'm going to replace the motherboard and keep it another year or two before I actually get a new one. That laptop has EVERYTHING dealing with the Boss Chic Files on it, so I may as well keep it around for awhile :)

I know it's Positive Monday, but I have not done anything in the past week that may give you any motivation. LOL don't judge me but I seriously have been relaxing with my feet up for like the past week. I loved every minute of it! Not only did I release my body from any work, but I released my mind as well. I have had the most stress free past few days, so I'm feeling very rejuvenated on this beautiful Monday. On top of that today is supposed to be 60 degrees, then for the next three days it's going to be in the high 60's, almost 70! Now ya'll know I love my warm weather, so I'm stoked about that!

I also received an unexpected financial blessing over the weekend and of course you can't go wrong with that. I also went to meet with my advisor last week, and I'm happy to say I'll be starting my studies for my bachelor's degree at ODU in the summer... and I have decided to go with a professional writing major, hopefully one day expanding the blog and my writing skills :)

I would love for you all to leave comments with positive things that have happened to you in the past week or in life period that you want to share. It always makes me feel good to know that the people around me have good things going for themselves and lots to look forward to!

SN: My birthday is next Wednesday, February 8th... I shall be 23. You know just in case ya'll wanna surprise me with gifts, flowers and candy LOL

[Throwback Thursday] Sunshine- Lil Flip

Who remembers Lil' Flip?? Man it's been like eight years since we heard anything from him! In 2004 he came out seemingly ready to make a steady career out of rap when he dropped two singles in one year. The first was "Game Over" which I absolutely loved. The Pacman beat was hot and the remix was even better. Then he dropped "Sunshine" with a chick named Lea which I also loved.

"Sunshine" was a pretty big hit for Lil' Flip landing at #2 on both the Billboard Hot R&B/Rap Songs as well as Billboard Hot 100. It went on to become his most successful single to date, which isn't saying much since we haven't heard much from him since then. This song came on my pandora last night and instantly brought back memories from my freshman year in high school! I love when certain songs take me back to certain times in my life.

Were you a fan of this single back in '04? What memories does it bring back to you? Leave a comment and let us know! Also check out the video below :)

[Fashion Files] Haki Combat Boots

Ok so ya'll know I tend to have a somewhat weird taste when it comes to fashion, but I just saw these boots online and had a shoegasm! If you read most of my fashion posts, you already know how I feel about military style/combat boots and these are no exception. I absolutely love the color and the style! These remind me of Doc Marten's but they're cheaper. And I've been dying for a pair of Doc Marten's for quite some time now.

These Haki Combat Boots are $58.00 and the only sizes left online right now ar 7, 8, and 10... so if you like them you better hurry if your size is still available! I would so wear these with a pair of black skinny jeans and either a black top or a plaid button up with the same color pink in it.

You can check out the two items that I would pair with these boots below! Let me know if you're feeling these or not :)

The Game: No Money Mo' Problems

Where do I start with last night's episode of The Game? Let me start by saying for the first time I wasn't very happy with this episode *sad face*. As big of a Game stan I am, it just seems like something was really missing from the show. I called my cousin last night to recap on the show afterwards, and he brought to my attention how the show isn't about football at all any more. It's more about the money that comes with the football and the endorsements etc. But I really do miss the scenes from previous seasons where the guys were in the locker room goofing around and whatnot. The show has changed, but I do still love it.

Rihanna the Rockstar vs. Rihanna the Role Model

Ohhhh Rihanna! Lol I told ya'll I start every post about her with that phrase! Whether you smoke or not, you have to love this girl for always staying true to the real her and not pretending to be something she's not. Rihanna was recently vacationing in Hawaii, and was caught by the paps smoking what seems to be a blunt. Ever since these pics flooded the internet, Rihanna has been the face of much ridicule, but on the other hand some people respect her even more.

I've been reading different celebrity blogs and when I'm on different sites I ALWAYS read the comment section. They are hilarious! But at the same time you find that commenters can be very judgmental as well. Now I am a very open minded person, and I don't judge anyone... blame it on my Aquarius sign *shrugs*. So as I was reading the comments I noticed that people were saying that Rihanna shouldn't be doing this because she's a role model to kids etc etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are lots of young girls who do look up to Rihanna, but let's be real it's not her job to be a role model.

[Positive Mondays] Follow Your Dreams

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! As we all know today is Martin Luther King Jr Day so we have to first start our positive monday by giving thanks to the man who changed EVERYTHING for us. Without him and his dream, without his hard work and determination, our world wouldn't be the way it is at all right now. Not to say we wouldn't have eventually gotten to this point, but he made everything possible by not giving up. His dream means everything to me, and I hope we as a society live up to the dream and work to make it even better in the future.

Religion VS. Spirituality

Have you ever realized that the most religious people are the least spiritual? They get so caught up in the technicalities of their certain religion that they forget about the spiritual side of things. These are the ones who force their religious practices on you, and criticize you when you don't follow their practices. Everyone knows someone who is deep in the church, but is the biggest hypocrite or so judgmental that they don't even give people a chance.

Now I am a firm believer in God and I do make a conscious effort to do the right thing, but of course like anyone else I'm far from perfect. I make mistakes and I sin just like anyone else. Well I had someone tell me that because I don't do everything right in God's eyes that there is no need for me to even go to church... wait what?? Isn't that why they tell you to come as you are and that the church is open to everyone? Better yet, since when does actually going to church make you any more holy than anyone else? It doesn't if you're criticizing and judging the lives of others.

[Throwback Thursday] Hit Em Up Style

With all the hype surrounding Beyonce' and Jay-Z's newborn daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, I thought what better way to go about #ThrowbackThursday than with a song by none other than Blu Cantrell! Who remembers her debut song from 2001 "Hit Em Up Style (Oops!)"?? I used to love this song!

I remember this coming out during my annual summer trip with my dad. We were either in Myrtle Beach or Florida, I can't remember, but they used to play it constantly. Since I was young I've always been a music head, and I pretty much can call whenever someone will be a one hit wonder or not. Not to be mean, but I figured she would be because she didn't give me any lasting impressions that made me want to know more about her. However, the song was very catchy!

[Fashion Files] Item of the Day- Trapper Hat

I really want one of these trapper hats!! Lol I don't know what my deal is, but I love anything that will make me look cute and girly but at the same time not so girly. Take military boots as an example, they can be paired with an outfit that will make you look fashionable and chic, but still give you a rugged edge. I look at this trapper hat in the same sense. Same goes for the leather vest I own and my military style rainboots.

Anything that gives me an edgy look while still looking fashionable is a win for me. This faux fur trapper hat is so cute to me! I've been looking into getting one of these, but I don't like them if they don't have the fur all over and the fur isn't thick. This one can be found at Nordstroms.com and is on sale for $16.90. The hat is by David & Young which isn't a bad price at all for the brand.

Would you wear one of these as a winter hat or do you prefer to keep it simplistic? Let us know if you're feeling it :)

[Fashion Files] Printed Leggings

For the past few years, leggings and tights have been the main alternative to jeans. Whether worn by themselves with a top, or under a skirt or shorts, these are a great way to add versatility to your wardrobe. For the most part, you can find them just about anywhere for a very decent price. I love leggings/tights for their comfort, not just the style. If I could, I'd choose to wear them every day over jeans.

With the different patterns and prints made on tights and leggings, you can switch them up with different outfits and expand your range of looks in so many ways. This makes it possible to have endless pairs because rarely any two are the same. My favorite prints would have to be anything animalistic or tribal, and flowered prints. I found a bunch of different printed leggings and tights on various websites that I thought my readers would enjoy. You can check them out below and let me know what you think!

The Game... Skeletons; The Truth Pact

Let me start by saying this season is obviously what we've been missing! I loved the premiere! It starts with Jason who wakes up in bed with Selita Ebanks. Dip and Pitts! Lol... Melanie meets Dr. McHottie at the hospital as she and Derwin are leaving from talking to the fertility specialist. All the while Derwin is trying to figure out what's what about the abortion she had previously. Malik brings a drugged up Jenna into his home and tries to help her to avoid media. She was way too gone!

It was big of Derwin to apologize to Melanie for spassing about the abortion, but I just knew the abortion wasn't his baby. I know Melanie felt bad as hell after his apology. Tasha Mack is back and funny as ever! I can't believe Tasha is sad about dropping Derwin. From the previews of the show, I didn't think she cared considering that her and Melanie fell out. Tasha has her reservations about Malik getting his life in order, and he proves her right by ordering wings while Jenna was sick.

The Game Season 5 Premiere

I am BEYOND excited about the premiere of season 5 of The Game tonight on BET!!! I am a true "Gamer", this is by far my favorite tv show right now. I've been waiting for what seems like a year for the new season to come back, it is so long overdue!

If you're new to the Boss Chic Files, you may not know but I do weekly posts every Tuesday night giving a run down of each episode of The Game. These posts give you all the details from the show that night, and they give a little of my opinion on all the happenings as well. These blogs are one of the main reasons The Boss Chic Files has gotten so much acknowledgment. There are people out there who love this show just as much as myself, and look forward to these weekly blogs on the show.

[Positive Monday] No BS in 2012

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! I hope everyone had a great weekend, as I did for the most part! Of course we have to start our week on a positive note, and since it's still the beginning of the year what better what to start the week than to make a goal to cut out all bullshit from your life?

If you know me, for the most part you should know that I'm a very kindhearted person, and I can tend to be a pushover at times. I get a satisfaction out of making others happy, but sometimes I forget to put myself first. My initial goal of 2012 was to put all bs behind me, focus on what makes me and only me happy, and not worry about what anyone else has to say. I must say so far I'm doing very good! It starts to take a toll on you when you worry about what others will say about your actions, and at the end of the day only you have to live with them.

Do We Spend Too Much On Our Kids' Clothes?

Tameka Raymond keeps her boys fly!
I read Common's book "One Day It'll All Make Sense" about two months ago and received some very helpful, quirky bits of advice throughout the entire book. One of the things that stood out to me the most was an excerpt from his mom giving insight on what it was like to raise him. Like myself she was a single mother raising a young boy, doing what she could to provide for him. But there was one thing she said that really caught my attention.

You know how people criticize the parents who are always dressed fly from head to toe but have their kids looking any kind of way? Well I agree with them 100% that you should never just have your kids looking ragged while you're sporting name brand and everything on you is fixed up. But Common's mother said something related to that in which I agree with even more. In a nut shell she feels that since she worked hard for everything that was provided for her and Common, then he wasn't getting anything new to wear if she didn't. Her specific argument was how could she go out and buy him everything name brand and have herself looking any kind of way, when she was the one bringing home the bread?
