[Look For Less] Rihanna's Givenchy Rottweiler Sweater

A few months ago, I saw on several blogs where Rihanna and Kanye had been rocking these Rottweiler t-shirts made by Givenchy, and I immediately thought they were dope. Not only are the tops hot, but the way they both wore them made them look even better. Rihanna, who opted for the Givenchy sweater rather than t-shirt, is well known for her good girl gone bad look... and I personally love the bad girl more.

When I'm not in my military inspired gear or dressed preppy, you can bet that I'm going to be dressed in all black or something similar. I love the whole rockstar style that she does, and I've incorporated it heavily in my wardrobe. Well I wanted to do a look similiar to what Rihanna is giving us in the picture above, and I found the perfect sweater online at TopShop.

Below I've posted pics of different pieces that I threw together to give a Rihanna-esque vibe to the sweater I found. You can check them out below and let us know if you're feeling the look!

[Positive Monday] Education is Everything

I mentioned in #PositiveMonday post from earlier today that I had went to talk to my advisor about my plans to continue school for my bachelor's degree, and I wanted to elaborate on my journey through school thus far. I know I said I really didn't have anything motivational to say, but I thought about all the struggling college students like myself and thought I would speak on the subject a tad.

[Fashion Files] Rascal Mesh Bodysuit

I absolutely love any and everything that is leopard print, zebra print, etc... anything animalistic is a win!! I also feel the same about tribal prints. Anywho, I have found a leopard print piece that is an absolute must have for your wardrobe. You don't have to get this specific one since it's a little expensive, but I guarantee you can't go wrong by investing in one.

Below I've posted a leopard print bodysuit which I found at NastyGal.com for $88. Yes it's a little steep but like I said you can't go wrong with it. For one, you can really wear this with ANYTHING. I mean literally, under a skirt, under pants, jeans, shorts... whatever you'd like. Not only that but you can also wear anything over it... a blazer, vest, cardigan, off the shoulder shirt, see through shirt, etc. So this piece is extremely versatile and can be worn in many different ways.

You can buy it here and they still have sizes from 6-12 if you're interested. You can check it out for yourself below, and also I posted a pic of how NastyGal.com pieced together an outfit with this bodysuit. Normally, I do my own look but I'm actually feeling their's :) Let us know if you're digging it or not!

SN: If you know me, then you know I love all black everything... this would also be hot with black harem pants, black peep toe booties, and a black blazer or cardigan #justsaying

[Guy Code] Designer Pins

If you're the type of guy who likes to stay on top of his game when it comes to style then you may already be up on these. However, most guys I know have their own style but they really could care less about the details that come with fashion. Well Melody Ehsani, who custom designs jewelry for celebrities, has a few pins that I thought were dope for men.

I really hate the word swag but I can't think of anything else to give definition to these pins. I think these are a good way for men to add versatility to their looks, and not take away from their masculinity. These pins run anywhere from $30- $60, and I think they're worth it. You can check them out below with the prices listed as well. And if you click the links under the pictures they will take you directly to the website in case you're interested in buying a few :)

[Positive Monday] Kick Off Your Shoes...

Whazzup, whazzup, whazzupppp!! *Martin voice* lol.. Man it feels like it's been forever and a day since I've written a blog, and from what I'm used to it has! My laptop died on me the week before last and I've been trying to get it fixed, only to find out that I need a whole new motherboard. Now I think I'm going to replace the motherboard and keep it another year or two before I actually get a new one. That laptop has EVERYTHING dealing with the Boss Chic Files on it, so I may as well keep it around for awhile :)

I know it's Positive Monday, but I have not done anything in the past week that may give you any motivation. LOL don't judge me but I seriously have been relaxing with my feet up for like the past week. I loved every minute of it! Not only did I release my body from any work, but I released my mind as well. I have had the most stress free past few days, so I'm feeling very rejuvenated on this beautiful Monday. On top of that today is supposed to be 60 degrees, then for the next three days it's going to be in the high 60's, almost 70! Now ya'll know I love my warm weather, so I'm stoked about that!

I also received an unexpected financial blessing over the weekend and of course you can't go wrong with that. I also went to meet with my advisor last week, and I'm happy to say I'll be starting my studies for my bachelor's degree at ODU in the summer... and I have decided to go with a professional writing major, hopefully one day expanding the blog and my writing skills :)

I would love for you all to leave comments with positive things that have happened to you in the past week or in life period that you want to share. It always makes me feel good to know that the people around me have good things going for themselves and lots to look forward to!

SN: My birthday is next Wednesday, February 8th... I shall be 23. You know just in case ya'll wanna surprise me with gifts, flowers and candy LOL

[Throwback Thursday] Sunshine- Lil Flip

Who remembers Lil' Flip?? Man it's been like eight years since we heard anything from him! In 2004 he came out seemingly ready to make a steady career out of rap when he dropped two singles in one year. The first was "Game Over" which I absolutely loved. The Pacman beat was hot and the remix was even better. Then he dropped "Sunshine" with a chick named Lea which I also loved.

"Sunshine" was a pretty big hit for Lil' Flip landing at #2 on both the Billboard Hot R&B/Rap Songs as well as Billboard Hot 100. It went on to become his most successful single to date, which isn't saying much since we haven't heard much from him since then. This song came on my pandora last night and instantly brought back memories from my freshman year in high school! I love when certain songs take me back to certain times in my life.

Were you a fan of this single back in '04? What memories does it bring back to you? Leave a comment and let us know! Also check out the video below :)

[Fashion Files] Haki Combat Boots

Ok so ya'll know I tend to have a somewhat weird taste when it comes to fashion, but I just saw these boots online and had a shoegasm! If you read most of my fashion posts, you already know how I feel about military style/combat boots and these are no exception. I absolutely love the color and the style! These remind me of Doc Marten's but they're cheaper. And I've been dying for a pair of Doc Marten's for quite some time now.

These Haki Combat Boots are $58.00 and the only sizes left online right now ar 7, 8, and 10... so if you like them you better hurry if your size is still available! I would so wear these with a pair of black skinny jeans and either a black top or a plaid button up with the same color pink in it.

You can check out the two items that I would pair with these boots below! Let me know if you're feeling these or not :)

The Game: No Money Mo' Problems

Where do I start with last night's episode of The Game? Let me start by saying for the first time I wasn't very happy with this episode *sad face*. As big of a Game stan I am, it just seems like something was really missing from the show. I called my cousin last night to recap on the show afterwards, and he brought to my attention how the show isn't about football at all any more. It's more about the money that comes with the football and the endorsements etc. But I really do miss the scenes from previous seasons where the guys were in the locker room goofing around and whatnot. The show has changed, but I do still love it.

Rihanna the Rockstar vs. Rihanna the Role Model

Ohhhh Rihanna! Lol I told ya'll I start every post about her with that phrase! Whether you smoke or not, you have to love this girl for always staying true to the real her and not pretending to be something she's not. Rihanna was recently vacationing in Hawaii, and was caught by the paps smoking what seems to be a blunt. Ever since these pics flooded the internet, Rihanna has been the face of much ridicule, but on the other hand some people respect her even more.

I've been reading different celebrity blogs and when I'm on different sites I ALWAYS read the comment section. They are hilarious! But at the same time you find that commenters can be very judgmental as well. Now I am a very open minded person, and I don't judge anyone... blame it on my Aquarius sign *shrugs*. So as I was reading the comments I noticed that people were saying that Rihanna shouldn't be doing this because she's a role model to kids etc etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are lots of young girls who do look up to Rihanna, but let's be real it's not her job to be a role model.

[Positive Mondays] Follow Your Dreams

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! As we all know today is Martin Luther King Jr Day so we have to first start our positive monday by giving thanks to the man who changed EVERYTHING for us. Without him and his dream, without his hard work and determination, our world wouldn't be the way it is at all right now. Not to say we wouldn't have eventually gotten to this point, but he made everything possible by not giving up. His dream means everything to me, and I hope we as a society live up to the dream and work to make it even better in the future.

Religion VS. Spirituality

Have you ever realized that the most religious people are the least spiritual? They get so caught up in the technicalities of their certain religion that they forget about the spiritual side of things. These are the ones who force their religious practices on you, and criticize you when you don't follow their practices. Everyone knows someone who is deep in the church, but is the biggest hypocrite or so judgmental that they don't even give people a chance.

Now I am a firm believer in God and I do make a conscious effort to do the right thing, but of course like anyone else I'm far from perfect. I make mistakes and I sin just like anyone else. Well I had someone tell me that because I don't do everything right in God's eyes that there is no need for me to even go to church... wait what?? Isn't that why they tell you to come as you are and that the church is open to everyone? Better yet, since when does actually going to church make you any more holy than anyone else? It doesn't if you're criticizing and judging the lives of others.

[Throwback Thursday] Hit Em Up Style

With all the hype surrounding Beyonce' and Jay-Z's newborn daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, I thought what better way to go about #ThrowbackThursday than with a song by none other than Blu Cantrell! Who remembers her debut song from 2001 "Hit Em Up Style (Oops!)"?? I used to love this song!

I remember this coming out during my annual summer trip with my dad. We were either in Myrtle Beach or Florida, I can't remember, but they used to play it constantly. Since I was young I've always been a music head, and I pretty much can call whenever someone will be a one hit wonder or not. Not to be mean, but I figured she would be because she didn't give me any lasting impressions that made me want to know more about her. However, the song was very catchy!

[Fashion Files] Item of the Day- Trapper Hat

I really want one of these trapper hats!! Lol I don't know what my deal is, but I love anything that will make me look cute and girly but at the same time not so girly. Take military boots as an example, they can be paired with an outfit that will make you look fashionable and chic, but still give you a rugged edge. I look at this trapper hat in the same sense. Same goes for the leather vest I own and my military style rainboots.

Anything that gives me an edgy look while still looking fashionable is a win for me. This faux fur trapper hat is so cute to me! I've been looking into getting one of these, but I don't like them if they don't have the fur all over and the fur isn't thick. This one can be found at Nordstroms.com and is on sale for $16.90. The hat is by David & Young which isn't a bad price at all for the brand.

Would you wear one of these as a winter hat or do you prefer to keep it simplistic? Let us know if you're feeling it :)

[Fashion Files] Printed Leggings

For the past few years, leggings and tights have been the main alternative to jeans. Whether worn by themselves with a top, or under a skirt or shorts, these are a great way to add versatility to your wardrobe. For the most part, you can find them just about anywhere for a very decent price. I love leggings/tights for their comfort, not just the style. If I could, I'd choose to wear them every day over jeans.

With the different patterns and prints made on tights and leggings, you can switch them up with different outfits and expand your range of looks in so many ways. This makes it possible to have endless pairs because rarely any two are the same. My favorite prints would have to be anything animalistic or tribal, and flowered prints. I found a bunch of different printed leggings and tights on various websites that I thought my readers would enjoy. You can check them out below and let me know what you think!

The Game... Skeletons; The Truth Pact

Let me start by saying this season is obviously what we've been missing! I loved the premiere! It starts with Jason who wakes up in bed with Selita Ebanks. Dip and Pitts! Lol... Melanie meets Dr. McHottie at the hospital as she and Derwin are leaving from talking to the fertility specialist. All the while Derwin is trying to figure out what's what about the abortion she had previously. Malik brings a drugged up Jenna into his home and tries to help her to avoid media. She was way too gone!

It was big of Derwin to apologize to Melanie for spassing about the abortion, but I just knew the abortion wasn't his baby. I know Melanie felt bad as hell after his apology. Tasha Mack is back and funny as ever! I can't believe Tasha is sad about dropping Derwin. From the previews of the show, I didn't think she cared considering that her and Melanie fell out. Tasha has her reservations about Malik getting his life in order, and he proves her right by ordering wings while Jenna was sick.

The Game Season 5 Premiere

I am BEYOND excited about the premiere of season 5 of The Game tonight on BET!!! I am a true "Gamer", this is by far my favorite tv show right now. I've been waiting for what seems like a year for the new season to come back, it is so long overdue!

If you're new to the Boss Chic Files, you may not know but I do weekly posts every Tuesday night giving a run down of each episode of The Game. These posts give you all the details from the show that night, and they give a little of my opinion on all the happenings as well. These blogs are one of the main reasons The Boss Chic Files has gotten so much acknowledgment. There are people out there who love this show just as much as myself, and look forward to these weekly blogs on the show.

[Positive Monday] No BS in 2012

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! I hope everyone had a great weekend, as I did for the most part! Of course we have to start our week on a positive note, and since it's still the beginning of the year what better what to start the week than to make a goal to cut out all bullshit from your life?

If you know me, for the most part you should know that I'm a very kindhearted person, and I can tend to be a pushover at times. I get a satisfaction out of making others happy, but sometimes I forget to put myself first. My initial goal of 2012 was to put all bs behind me, focus on what makes me and only me happy, and not worry about what anyone else has to say. I must say so far I'm doing very good! It starts to take a toll on you when you worry about what others will say about your actions, and at the end of the day only you have to live with them.

Do We Spend Too Much On Our Kids' Clothes?

Tameka Raymond keeps her boys fly!
I read Common's book "One Day It'll All Make Sense" about two months ago and received some very helpful, quirky bits of advice throughout the entire book. One of the things that stood out to me the most was an excerpt from his mom giving insight on what it was like to raise him. Like myself she was a single mother raising a young boy, doing what she could to provide for him. But there was one thing she said that really caught my attention.

You know how people criticize the parents who are always dressed fly from head to toe but have their kids looking any kind of way? Well I agree with them 100% that you should never just have your kids looking ragged while you're sporting name brand and everything on you is fixed up. But Common's mother said something related to that in which I agree with even more. In a nut shell she feels that since she worked hard for everything that was provided for her and Common, then he wasn't getting anything new to wear if she didn't. Her specific argument was how could she go out and buy him everything name brand and have herself looking any kind of way, when she was the one bringing home the bread?

[Throwback Thursday] Mo To Tha, E To Tha!

So I just almost hyperventilated looking at old episodes of Moesha on youtube! OMG this was and still is my absoulte all time favorite show in the world right along with Sister Sister. When I lived in Virginia Beach back in '08, reruns of Moesha used to come on Noggin and I literally used to record each one every single day and go home and watch them. No matter how many times I had seen the reruns, I still watched Moesha every single day lol. At the time I was like 19 and you would think the show had just come out the way I was addicted to it.

I used to do the same with Sister Sister. It would come on every morning when I was getting ready for work and school in the past few years, and I would watch every single episode. These two shows were my abosulte favorites when I was younger, so when they started coming back on tv as reruns when I got older, I was estatic. Well now I'm back at square one because Moesha doesn't come on at all, and Sister Sister only comes on the gospel channel on Saturday mornings.

For #ThrowbackThursday I decided to do something different and post one of my favorite episodes of Moesha. In this episode she had snuck off to a pajama party with her friends and as usual she ended up getting caught. I swear Frank and Dee used to stay on Mo, she couldn't get away with SHAT! Lol and I love Kim and Neicy to pieces, they were so funny! There's also an appearance in this episode from a young Usher.. he was so cute!

Check out the full episode below, broken down into two parts. Did you used to be a big Moesha fan? And am I the only one STILL mad at how they just cut the show with a cliff hanger for an ending? #salty lol

[Fashion Files] Dress Like Draya

Call me crazy, but I just love Draya! When she first appeared on the scene, I had my doubts about her because of the stories centering around her leaving her son to fend for himself while she traveled. But after seeing her on Basketball Wives LA and following on twitter, the girl is a trip lol. It's really hard to not like her personality.

A week or two ago, she was spotted partying it up at Vanquish in ATL sporting magenta suede pumps, thigh high tights, a black leather mini, and a YSL t-shirt. As I was reading the blogs, I noticed that lots of people weren't feeling Draya's outfit at all but I actually thought it was fly! For some reason I love to wear black when I go out, and her black and white combo is hitting in my eyes! I love how she threw in the hot pink shoes, they set the total outfit off very well and added just the right amount of color needed.

Below I've pieced together a similar look which is probably much cheaper than what Draya is wearing. Of course you can find similiar pieces out there for even less than what I posted, this is just to give you a general idea of how to turn it into your own. You can check it out below and let me know what you think! Are you feeling this look?

Bossy Linx: Lala's Cosmetic Line & More

I try to steer away from posting constant celebrity gossip on here because this is far from a gossip blog. My main purpose was to focus on women in general as far as fashion, makeup, music etc. However, I do like to post different celebrity stories on here from time to time to keep you guys in the loop.

On that note, below there are a few links from some of my favorite bloggers with different pieces of info and gossip that I found interesting. I visit these sites regularly for my work entertainment and you might want to add them to your favorites as well. Check out the links below!

[Nail Files] Ka'oir Cosmetics Nail Lacquer

I'm not sure if you all remember but last month I did a post on Ka'oir Lipstick by Keyshia Dior, well now the video vixen has her own nail lacquer under the same brand. She just launched her nail polish right before Christmas, and currently has a special running where you can get 3 for $25.99. If you don't want the bundle, then each bottle is $9.99 a piece. All of the colors stand out to me, especially the brighter colors as pictured above.

I definitely respect Keyshia's hustle being that she started this brand herself and continues to expand it as her clientele grows. She went from making lipstick and lip glosses to adding a line of nail lacquer and tank tops. From what I read in her tweets, she will also plan on launching a line of eyelashes with her brand as well. Now if that's not a boss then I don't know what is!

Check out the different colors in her nail polish line below and let us know what you think! Will you be buying? Make sure you check out her website http://www.kaoir.com/ if you're interested in purchasing anything.

SN: Keyshia Dior inspires me to make bigger moves... now watch me work! *hits the flex* lol

[Fashion Files] Heel-less Platforms

Here lately a few different celebrities have been spotted lately rocking what I like to call "heel-less heels". While the trend is far from new, as Lady Gaga has been wearing these for awhile now, they caught my eye recently after Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland were spotted in a tribal printed pair by Guiseppe Zanotti (pictured above). I thought theirs were very unique and I would probably rock them to the heel fell off LOL! #childish

Like I said these aren't new at all in the fashion world, but I found a pair online at NastyGal.com for $82.60. I think that's a pretty decent price for a pair of shoes that are hard to come by. As of right now, I doubt if there are many shoes with this design that you can get for a good price. So I wanted to help my readers out and point you to the cheaper version if you're willing to experiment with these!

First of all the trick is mastering "the walk" in them. Once you get that down packed, I think you should be good to go lol.... but even Lady Gaga took a tumble in them before so "break a leg" lol.

[Fashion Files] Jessica Simpson Fringe Vest

Vests and blazers are my favorite jacket style clothing to have in my wardrobe because they can be placed over just about anything and will almost instantly make your outfit stand out more. Whenever I go shopping, I try finding different pieces that really stand out to me to add to my wardrobe. When I shop for pieces individually versus complete outfits at once, I find that it's much easier because you will always have pieces that go with different clothes and accessories and you won't have to match everything up together.

Take this fringe vest for instance... I have brown military boots already in my closet and I have plenty of button down shirts that would look cute under this vest. The vest is by Jessica Simpson and is currently on sale for $39.99. It's a very basic piece, yet it has it's own little attributes that make it stand out on it's own. If you pair this up with a ordinary outfit, it will definitely add some flavor to your look.

You can check out a couple of pics below of myself in a vest that I have that's similar to this one. I like how the one above has fringes all the way around the bottom though. Let us know if you're feeling this, and if you're interested you can find the vest here. This goes to show that you don't have to spend alot of money to look like a boss :)

Change Comes Eventually

Celebs on NYE
Happy New Year bosses and boss chics! I hope everyone brought it in safely and in good spirits. With the new year comes constant talk of changing for the better, changing ways, changing habits... All you see on Facebook and twitter statuses is change. On the contrary, you also see people posting about how we shouldn't wait until the new year to make changes that we know already should be made, which I totally agree with.

Since many make New Year's resolutions that they plan to stick to every year, I think this holiday is the one that is most centered around change and self reflection. But what I think we fail to realize is that we have to actually want to change in order to make it happen. How many times have you made a new year's resolution only to break it after a few weeks or months into the year? I do it all the time. More than anything it's because we're not actually ready for the change that we commit to, or we're not serious about getting there.
